outline naked trees,
the earth littered
with debris of summer.
A few procrastinating squirrels
frantically scurry,
looking for anything
to hide away for later.
The smart birds
have all found hiding places,
the smarter birds
have all gone south.
It’s coming, oh, it’s coming
Very nice. I love the build up and the finishing line is perfect!

No, no, no, I don't want it to come. I love Autumn best!
ReplyDeleteParts of me are rapidly going south too! Never mind, this is a delightful piece about a miserable month!

Been listening to the "smarter" birds making their exodus south for weeks! 'It's coming,' for sure, and no stopping it either. Wonderful and descriptive observation of time moving forward and season's change.
ReplyDeleteNice take. I wish to join them now.
